Why can I only see my child’s results not the others in the grade?

Young athletes should focus on individual progress and personal achievement rather than comparing themselves with others.  At Pakuranga Athletic Club we emphasise PBs (‘personal bests’) as this encourages young athletes to set and strive for their own goals, fostering a sense of self-improvement and personal excellence. This approach builds confidence as athletes see evidence of their hard work and dedication paying off. In contrast, constantly comparing results with others can lead to unnecessary pressure, unhealthy competition, discouragement and lack of motivation.

By prioritising PBs, young athletes learn the value of perseverance, resilience, and intrinsic motivation which are crucial for long-term success. Celebrating PBs also creates a supportive environment where every athlete’s unique athletics journey is valued and appreciated.
