McKinnon Shield 2024/25

Auckland Athletes have made changes to the McKinnon Shield competition for the 2024-2025 summer season. These include changes to point scoring, introducing a Premier Division and First Division for clubs, a “powerplay” round, and medals for athletes of the First, Second, Third and Fourth placed clubs in each division based on the final league table position.

There are 10 rounds for the McKinnon Shield in 2024/25 season. These 10 meets are all being held at Herb Towers Track, Mt Smart Stadium.

Athletics Auckland Competition Age Entry Rules – McKinnon Shield

To compete at a McKinnon Shield you must be 12yrs old as at 31st December in the year of competition e.g.

• To compete at the five meets prior to Christmas you must be turning or already be 12yrs of age on the 31st December 2021
• To compete at the five meets after Christmas you must be turning or already be 12yrs of age on the 31st December 2022

For example – I am turning 12yrs old on the 1st January 2025. I cannot compete at a McKinnon Shield meet until after Christmas as before Christmas I am still only 11yrs old as at 31st December in the year of competition (2024).

To compete at an Athletics Auckland sanctioned meet you must be a registered athlete. Secondary School athletes not registered with a club can compete up until the NZSS Championships. School sports uniforms must be worn. Entries are taken online.

These rules are to be read in conjunction with the IAAF handbook and the Athletics New Zealand Supplementary Rules.

Athletics Auckland will appoint a Technical Delegate and an Administration Delegate for each meet.
