Fabulous Day 1 at the New Zealand Track and Field Champs for Team Pakuranga athletes with two new New Zealand Champions, two records broken and lots of podium finishes.  

Special congratulations to:

  • Jordan Viljoen – New Zealand WU16 high jump champion.  (Jordan’s final clearance of 1.67m is a new Club Open record too)
  • Rianco Haggard – New Zealand MU18 300m hurdles champion

And we loved seeing the following athletes on the podium:

  • Jordan Viljoen – silver in WU16 300m hurdles
  • Madeleine Du Toit – bronze in WU16 300m hurdles
  • Leah Marais – bronze in WU16 3000m
  • Zachary Orbell – bronze in Mens 100m para.  (Zachary’s time of 13:36 is a new New Zealand T35 record!)

Day 2  – Congratulations to our three new New Zealand Champions:

  • Morgan Day – New Zealand Champion in WU16 800m
  • Antonie Smal – New Zealand Champion in MU20 javelin.  (Antonie’s winning throw of 62.86 is a new MU20 and senior club record)
  • Ethan Olivier – New Zealand Champion in SM triple jump

And congratulations to everyone on the long list of those who made the podium today:

  • Yandri Fourie – silver in WU18 3000m racewalk
  • Richie Trathen – silver in MU20 3000m racewalk
  • Noah Retford – silver in MU20 400m hurdles
  • Jordan Viljoen – bronze in WU16 long jump
  • Nathan He – bronze in MU16 200m
  • Ethan Vaili – bronze in MU16 discus
  • James Trathen – bronze in MU20 800m

And in the relays:

  • Unaisi Cava and Jordan Viljoen won gold as part of the WU16 4x100m relay team
  • Jordan Viljoen, Leah Marais and Morgan Day won gold as part of the WU16 4x400m relay
  • Cesar Garcia Soto won gold as part of the WU16 4x400m relay team
  • Marc Patience and Nathan He won bronze as part of the MU16 4x100m relay team
  • Rianco Haggard won bronze as part of the MU18 4x400m relay team

Day 3 – We are super-excited to announce we have another FOUR new New Zealand Champions.  Congratulations to:

  • Jordan Viljoen – New Zealand Champion in WU16 80m hurdles
  • Leah Marais – New Zealand Champion in WU16 1500m
  • Rianco Haggard – New Zealand Champion in MU18 110m hurdles
  • Antonie Smal – New Zealand Champion in MU20 discus

And also on the podium today we had:

  • Marielle Venida – bronze in the SW 100m
  • Zachary Orbell – bronze in the para 200m

We are so proud of all our athletes who competed over the weekend at what is New Zealand’s pinnacle track and field event. Congratulations to those who achieved their goals, whether these be national titles, podium finishes or PBs. To those whose campaigns didn’t quite go to plan – remember, you learn more by losing than winning.  We look forward to seeing you at Mt Smart in March 2026 faster, stronger and even more determined.
